There’s a few solid choices that could be possible candidates for fighters, based on character polls and the popularity of characters amongst fans. This list doesn’t include characters who have seemingly been disproven like Sora or Goku, meaning basically characters that still have a feasible chance of joining the roster. For now, there’s still quite a few options for characters joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but here are some of the most exciting prospects for joining in the fight.

Crash Bandicoot
Ever since Cloud joined the Smash roster, the possibilities for characters have become endless, especially from former PlayStation exclusives, which ironically is why Crash Bandicoot is one of the most highly requested characters of all time. The beloved PlayStation icon from the early 90s has always been a requested character since the beginning, but his potential inclusion is now far more feasible in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Crash’s moveset could also borrow plenty of inspiration from others, as his moves in the original Crash Bandicoot games are pretty basic and leaves room for tons of creative freedom. Considering all the other mascots of gaming joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Crash seems like a logical choice.
Dante from Devil May Cry
This character choice is still a little iffy, but hasn’t been exactly disproven in any capacity yet. Much like Crash, Dante typically ranks top five in character popularity polls for inclusion in Smash. The Devil May Cry protagonist wouldn’t be the first character created by Hideki Kamiya to make it into Smash, not to mention from an even bigger action game franchise as well. Originally the barrier to entry for Dante, as described by Devil May Cry’s director Hidaki Itsuno, was the fact that a Devil May Cry game had never really been on Nintendo platforms before. Now that this particular barrier has been taken down with the original trilogy of Devil May Cry ported to Switch, Dante’s inclusion is far more feasible than it was before. At least about as feasible as Bayonetta was at the time, but she proved to surprise fans on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS, so it’s definitely still possible.
Master Chief from Halo
While it’s possible that more fans would advocate for Doom Guy making it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate than Master Chief, Halo’s best Spartan would just make more sense for inclusion. Considering Ultimate is an E10+ game, and Doom Guy’s main schtick is goring demons in bombastic and violent fashion, Master Chief is comparatively toned down. Is Master Chief still a super soldier capable of mowing down aliens left and right? Sure, but Chief isn’t exactly relishing in dismembering enemies left and right. It’s almost impossible to tone down Doom Guy’s character to appease the rating without removing his identifiable features entirely. Plus this is a game with Bayonetta in it, but her explicit source material is significantly toned down for Smash.
This is the reason why Master Chief being included instead just makes more sense. While it’s arguable that Chief and Doom Guy both have unique and interesting personalities, one of them has both a definitive name and a voice. Not to mention the potential versatility of his moveset could mirror that of Snake’s abilities, just in a more Halo-esque way. Master Chief is the icon of Xbox, just like Crash Bandicoot for PlayStation, and could add to the mascots of gaming like Banjo and Cloud who are already on the roster.

Isaac from Golden Sun
Of course “more sword characters” is a common criticism of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but Isaac’s been a sleeper hit amongst fans for a while. It doesn’t help that he’s part of a long dormant franchise, but Golden Sun is still a Nintendo first-party series. The Golden Sun JRPG series has become sort of a cult-classic over the years, even though the game was still mildly popular when it initially released. There were even some early Ultimate rumors Isaac also still ranks relatively high on recent popularity polls, and has been a frontrunner on other fan votes for years. Plus with Min Min serving as evidence that trophies don’t necessarily result in the de-confirmation of characters, it’s very possible Isaac’s life as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could transfer into a full-fledged character for the second Fighter Pass.
Decidueye from Pokémon
One of the latest leaks for the second Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass was that the next character would be a Pokemon fighter. Considering Ultimate has yet to add a standalone grass-type Pokemon, Decidueye would be a prime representative. Some of the early “leaks” for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teased that Spring Man and Decidueye would be fighters, which understandably excited fans. Of course this leak turned out to be very fake, but it was enough to get players interested at the prospect of Decidueye coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Plus, it’s an opportunity for a very unique Pokemon fighter with a completely new moveset to make its debut. Perhaps in the next few months, Decidueye may actually come to the game after all.
Of course, determining the next fighter to come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a nebulous task. Additional characters have ranged from the highest highs of Joker from Persona 5 to the lowest lows of Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. These are just a few of many requested to join the roster, but these five are the most realistic hype choices for the second Fighters Pass.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Switch.
