During a recent interview, Samoa Joe also confirmed an earlier report which revealed the backstage reaction to his commentary work.

WWE completed the purchase of a popular wrestling promotion in the United States after months of speculation and negotiations.

A title change was also confirmed to take place after a spoiler got leaked online, however, WWE could be scrambling to make a few changes.

Lastly, a dream match for Brock Lesnar was also talked about backstage, as confirmed by another WWE Superstar.

#5. Edge did suffer the injury during an RKO spot at WWE Backlash

Edge is set to be out of action for a considerable amount of time due to a torn triceps injury, for which he’s already undergone surgery.

Dave Meltzer had reported back in June that he was told by one person in the company that Edge may have suffered the injury during the second or third RKO of the match.

During a recent appearance on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, Edge confirmed that he popped his triceps during the springboard RKO spot at WWE Backlash.

Edge explained:

The Rated-R Superstar could be sidelined for up to six months but he should ideally face Orton one last time when he does return to in-ring action in the WWE.

#4. Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley was talked about backstage

Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley has been one of those WWE dream matches that has been in the making for over a decade. Both the former MMA competitors are now in the WWE, and we’re yet to see the match come to fruition.

Tom Colohue had reported a few times before that there have always been talks backstage regarding booking the match and WWE officials are determined to make it a reality.

Bobby Lashley confirmed the rumor and stated during the Table Talk podcast appearance that there was talk of teasing the match and seeing where it went at one point.

However, the match couldn’t happen as Brock Lesnar was in a feud with Roman Reigns at that time. Lashley went on to state that now is the right time for WWE to give the fans the behemothic clash between him and Lesnar.

#3. WWE purchases EVOLVE

Dave Meltzer had reported in the second week of June in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there was a possibility of WWE purchasing EVOLVE.

PWInsider confirmed this past week that WWE has completed the purchase of EVOLVE after months of negotiations.

The Gabe Sapolsky-led promotion was in a bad financial condition ever since WrestleMania 36 weekend in Tampa, Florida, was canceled and moved to the Performance Center.

It was stated that WWE has bought the promotion as well as the entire video library. It was added that a few EVOLVE talents could also be signed up to NXT in the future.

EVOLVE and WWE have had a working relationship since 2015 as Vince McMahon’s company has signed many talents from the promotion, some of which include Matt Riddle, Johnny Gargano, and Apollo Crews.

EVOLVE was considered to be a popular professional wrestling promotion in the United States as it attracted some of the best wrestlers in the world and gave them a platform to hone their skills and possibly impress the WWE bosses in the process. Drew McIntyre had also competed in the company before WWE re-signed him.

Many more details of WWE’s acquisition of EVOLVE were revealed which you can read here.

#2. Backstage reaction to Samoa Joe on commentary

Samoa Joe has been exceptional in his new role as one of the announcers on RAW.

Dave Meltzer had stated back in November 2019 that the backstage reaction to Samoa Joe’s commentary work has been positive and everyone recognized how good he was in the role.

Even Vince McMahon feels that having Samoa Joe in the commentary booth seems right and Joe confirmed it during a recent episode of WWE’s The Bump.

Joe realized that being an announcer could be a good fit for him. He revealed that even Vince McMahon thought it was perfect.

Samoa Joe will return to the ring as soon as he is cleared, but he is also expected to continue as the announcer on RAW, reportedly replacing Jerry Lawer on a full-time basis.

#1. NXT Great American Bash spoiler, two endings

As unfortunate as it sounds, Saurav Gurjar of Indus Sher accidentally revealed a major spoiler regarding the upcoming Winner Takes All Match between Adam Cole and Keith Lee which is scheduled to main-event Night 2 of the WWE NXT Great American Bash.

The match has already been taped and Gurjar, who was one of the members of the crowd, posted a photo of the finish on his Instagram story. The photo was taken down, but the damage had already been done. The screenshots of the outcome of the match and the winner began circulating all over the internet, and it was first brought to everyone’s attention by Sportskeeda’s Gary Cassidy after the photo was sent to him.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the WWE office was furious about the leak. While it was not confirmed initially, there was a possibility that the WWE may have shot two endings, or were preparing to call for a last-minute taping to film another finish.

NXT Developmental talent E. J. Nduka took to Twitter and pretty much confirmed that the Great American Bash title match might have two endings.

Adam Cole also revealed that he wouldn’t be able to stream on Twitch this week as something urgent had come up work-wise.

WWE may have a swerve in store after all.
